With the United States Constitution, other founding documents, and classic literature as the backbone of this course, students will engage in hands-on, fun and inspiring educational activities as they wend their way through early American history (American Revolution up to WW1) to current events affecting the U.S. Constitution.
The object of Authors of Liberty is to empower students to become authors of liberty in both their private and public lives. This objective can be realized as students choose to “enlist” in “General Washington’s Army”, and fulfill weekly “missions” at home and alongside their peers. Students will have fun as they challenge one another in moving up the ranks from Private to Sergeant to General, and everything in between, completing selected missions along the way! Such missions include participating in book discussions, engaging in document studies, cooking food from historic periods, serving others in their families and communities, writing letters to congressmen/women, taking on physical fitness challenges and more!
The first portion of Authors of Liberty will focus on events and key characters leading up to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. The course then moves into an in-depth study of the U.S. Constitution and other founding documents while continuing to highlight important figures in history, including both male and female heroes and heroines. Authors of Liberty then addresses factors which have weakened the fabric of the U.S. Constitution, including the events of 1913 and also the threats of Communism. This course culminates in each student identifying their own unique passions, skills and abilities they will contribute to authoring liberty in their own lives and communities now and throughout their lifetimes.
